The Ministry of National Education's is the Executive Office that oversees education in Colombia. It's mission is to guarantee the right to education with criteria of equity, quality and efficiency that educates responsible citizens capable of constructive a happy, equitable society that is competely solidary and proud of itself. Between 2005 and 2007 I worked in different positions. My last position was Use and Appropriation of New Technologies Cordinator in the Media and Technology in Education Program. I designing and coordinating strategies to foster classroom use of media and computer technologies to improve teaching and learning in k-12 education.

Major Achievements:

  • Led the implementation of the Intel Teach program in the country during 2006, when the first 4,000 teachers were trained
  • Adviced on the negociation with Harvard Graduate School of Education's Wide World
  • Produced a document of policy and program recommendation for the use of technologies in rural schools, in accordance with the Ministry policies and plans
  • Coordinated and oversaw the negotiation and design of pilot projects that use media and technology to improve teaching and learning:
  • Classroom computers
  • 1 to 1 computing
  • Teacher online communities
  • Coordinatde with other senior program staff in professional development, educational contents, infrastructure and administration the design and impementation of the major activities of the program
  • Supported and adviced with other Ministry areas (Vice Ministry of K-12 Education, Direction of Quality, Assistant Direction of School Improvement) on policies for the uses of technology in K-12 schools
  • Coordinated online communities in the Colombia Aprende Educational Portal
  • Coordinated professional development programs around the country, including A Que te Cojo Ratón, Intel Teach and Peer Coaching
  • Adviced the Ministry of Education's Populations Direction on the incorporation of technology in rural schools in the country. The recommendations covered technical infrastructure available for rural schools, teacher professional development, and current worldwide trends in rural education to recommend a strategy for the incorporation and implementation of technologies in rural education in Colombia
