Oppressive heat the news called it today

Se acabó | It's Over

in Español

======================

Today I went in for the last radiation. Very uneventful. It was simply the last and I won't have to go in again... hopefully. I'll just have to wait for the follow ups and see if it all really worked out. I'm happy it's over, though.

D&D Freaks Enjoy

in Español

My D&D freaks and friends, enjoy this fun find of the rabbi. Here's what I got. The link to take the test is here or below.

Ranger
You scored 37 Holy, 61 Tactful, 67 Natural, and 15 Arcane!
Hmm, you've got the skills, nobody can deny that. You're a hard nut to
crack in a fight, you can hound an enemy like no other, you have a
connection to the wilderness that borders on supernatural, and the
animals back home love you. Don't be fooled by LOTR though, you are not
a natural leader. In fact, you're probably a bit of a recluse, and you
are reasonably rash. You gave up understanding why humans treat each
other so needlessly bad a long time ago, and have just decided to do
what you can for the defenseless of us by savaging the people that harm
what you love. If everyone were like you this world would be a great
place... but since it's not, better get back to hunting evildoers...
with uncanny intensity.

Couch on Craiglist

in Español

A young woman, let's call her Bianca, is moving out of town. She needs to sell some of her things, get rid of them and make some money at the same time. And she does need some money. She posts an ad on craiglist announcing that she has a velvet couch in good condition for sale. Shortly she receives an e-mail from a buyer who signs as Rev., let's call her Rev. Mary. They agree on a price of $120, and the buyer sending a check. When the check arrives, it is for an outrageous amount of $1,800, and is signed by a woman not called Mary. Confused, and being an honest person, Bianca writes her buyer about the confusion. Rev. Mary replies that it is fine if the check comes from X bank. And it does. She says Bianca should cash it, take $380 for her couch (and troubles) and Western Union the remaining $1,420 to a friend of Rev. Mary's in London.

What make you of this story my friends? What kind of shady scam is it?
What should the good Bianca do?

Off to the city

in Español

In a couple hours I'll get on a Fung Wah bus and head toward the city that doesn't sleep. I'll be there short after nightfall, around 9:30. It's the rabbi's birthday tomorrow, so we'll celebrate. I'll be back in Boston on Sunday. I hope the weather people got it right and temperatures are going down this weekend.

12 and counting || 12 y contando

in Español

Today I went in for radiation number 12.

Last week I started feeling the sore throat, and my voice can testify to that.
Last week I started feeling the swollen throat, and it hurts to swallow.
Last week I started feeling the dry mouth.
Last week I started feeling the thickened saliva.

Today I realized I was losing hair, yet again.
Today I realized there was bald patch in the back of my head, to the right, behind the ear... almost 1/4 of my head.
Today, a couple minutes ago, I shaved my head again, like in chemo days.
Today, a couple minutes ago, I realized the skin of the irradiated area is clearly redder that the rest.

Boo.

===================

Buu. Mierda. Qué mamera.

Murdering Shakespeare: the job search

in Español

(no iambic... couldn't manage.)

To despair or not to despair: that is the question:
Whether 'tis saner in the mind to accept
The slings and arrows of the outrageous job market
Or to send resumes to unwilling employers
And by insisting get hired? To stay: to search;
No more; and by travel home to say we end
The mind ache and the thousand degrees
That Boston is known for, in this humid, gross summer
Devoutly to be wish'd ended. To go, to stay;
To stay: perchance to dream: aye there's the rub;
For in that stay we search what jobs may come
When we have shuffled the visa coil.

To grunt and sweat under the weary job search,
But there's the dread of something not coming by,
From the undiscover'd country of stars and stripes
No alien non-resident returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly back home to jobs that may come
By droping the dreaded H bomb?

New Place

in Español

I moved to my new place on Friday, right after graduation. I will be there only for the summer and the rest is uncertainty... it all depends on where/whether I get a job, so I haven't gotten anything for my room even though I need a dresser and a desk at least. My room mates have stuff and that's great! There's some furniture in the place! It's a small nice apartment, and it will be fine for the time being. I'll have to figure something out for the future, when the future comes. Oh, and this Saturday we're having a party... I just heard yesterday, but we are... sent out an evite. We'll see who comes around.

On a different note, my dad left yesterday. We went to the airport early in the morning and apparently everything was fine. He was home in the evening, with a stomach ache from the airplane food. It was nice having him around. Now that he's gone I have all my time to work on getting a job and getting the organization we're starting with my Latin American friends going. That's a lot of work in itself, but if it works it will be great. As to getting a job... what a painful thing it is. I hate job hunting!

Commencement week started

in Español

Commencement week started yesterday with a reception for international students at the school. We went there and met some of the parents and I got to introduce some of my friends to my father. Then we went to dinner with some other friends in Korean restaurant by Porter Sq. The food was good and we had some fun. There was an event today, with speeches and awards, but we chose not to go. We'll go to some of the things tomorrow... the TIE reception and the dance and the alumni thingy...

Today I still need to do some packing cause we'll be kicked out of the dorm on Friday and there will be little time between tomorrow and then, when I'll be moving to my summer sublet in Somerville.

After moving it will all be about looking for a job and being somewhat bored. I already miss school!

This and that

in Español

Star Wars: I saw the movie a week ago, on Sunday. Went by myself 'cause everyone was busy. I was kind'a disappointing. I really wanted to see Anakin spiraling down into evil, slowly turning to the dark side, but... all I got was a "Turn to the dark side!" Palpatine said. "But the Jedi... my principles...! Anakin replied. "Oh, c'mon, please," Palpatine whispered. "Fine," Anakin finally said. Nice special effects, as usual. But what a lousy script we got in that movie, what a lousy script, what a lousy storyline.

School's out: Yeah, school's out. It's kind'a boring to not have classes. And looking for work is not most fun occupation I've had. It's actually one of the most boring. I've sent a couple resume + cover letter combos, one to EDC, the other to Laureate Universities. Even though I'm looking for a job in Boston, none of those is here. I might not be looking well, I don't know. It's still boring to not have school. I was used to having homework and knowing I was always behind with some work. As to the mixed feelings I'd mentioned before... they're still mixed, but I'm kind'a sad it's over. It was good times, but it went by so quickly! I wish it were longer, though paying for another year... that I prolly wouldn't have been able to do!

Birthday party: Yesterday I went to Deb's girl seven-year-old birthday. It was fun to talk to people outside of school for a while, and to get out of Cambridge. Had a few beers, talked to new people, and then had dinner with Melanie and played with Willem for a while. Thanks for the steak!

Dinner: Went out to dinner tonight to the North End with some of the dorm folk tonight. It was a lot of fun, great food, great company. Most likely the last outing together, though many will be in Boston next year, maybe including me... who knows. We missed those who weren't there, stranded in Vegas or Canadia, or on the way to Norway, but it was lots of fun anyway. I'd been craving for good pasta for a while now, and what better place than the North End for that?
