Travel news: March, Portland-Boston

nando's picture

I was invited by our friends at Intel to attend the Intel Education International Roundtable in Portland, OR, the first week of March. They are making the travel arrangements for me, and I asked my boss to give me a week to visit Boston after the roundtable (I didn't take any vacation in December-January). She generously agreed, so I'll hopefully be visiting from March 9-16. I'm excited about seeing friends again, visiting the Ed. school, and so many other things. Too bad FiedApplePie is no longer there. I'd love to see her, the Red Haired Girl and the new dog. I'm not sure who is still in town. I'll start doing the Visa stuff tomorrow. Mine expired. It shouldn't be a problem, but you never know with those Americans :D. I'll post updates as I have them. Lemme know if you're in Boston or Portland so we can meet! I might go to NYC for a few days too, but I haven't made up my mind. Kalina?

Breaking news - 8/11

August 11, Thursday after next, at 12:30 PM I will be boarding a plane in Logan airport: destination: Bogotá! Finding a job and living out of savings proved more difficult than I expected. I have better leads and job opportunities back home, where a Harvard degree is valued and rare, not common and almost useless as in Boston. So, if you wanna say good-bye, give me a call. If you wanna come visit in Bogotá, definitely give me a call or e-mail me. It's a great city and Colombia is a beautiful country despite what the U.S. department of state might say about it and its dangers.

The House of the Seven Gables").

Language 2
So, I finished my paper, or kind of, on Tuesday night and yesterday went on a day trip to Salem with my friends Knut and Yenda (from the dorms). It was fun to do something other than staying in Cambridge for the break. We ate at a very decent restaurant (the prime rib was pretty good), Victoria Station, and then went on to visit some of the tourist attractions, like Nathaniel Hawthorne's "House of the Seven Gables" and a candy shop that claims to be oldest in the country, "Ye Olde Pepper Candy Companie". We didn't visit the Witches' museum and some other witch-related attractions that were closed for the season. They will open in a couple weeks, and we might even go back to see them. It was all pretty fun... oh, and by the end of the day I bought some girl scout cookies at the train station, very American of me, ha.

Other news... my hair had been falling so much in the past few days I felt like I was living with a dog or something. In the morning my pillow was like if a dog had slept there... so today I went to the barber shop around the corner of Everett, on Mass. Ave., and asked the guy to shave my head. He first thought it was a joke and then did it. "How do you want it, sir?" "I wanna shave it all off." "Ha, ha, ha. Now, seriously, how do you want it?" Anyway, my hair is gone now. Fortunately, in Yenda's words, I don't have a head like E.T., so I don't look too bad. I guess that is good, ey? Now I'll have to shave... I have more hair on my face than on my head!
