Universidad Nacional de Colombia

In the Philology and Languages program at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, I was always at the top of my class. I studied Spanish from linguistic, social, anthropological and philosophical perspectives through courses in general linguistics, syntax, semantics, discourse analysis, linguistic anthropology, sociolinguistics, and literature studies. I also took courses on education, and did a teaching practice at a local high school.

Colegio San Carlos

During my high school years I was part of the student newspaper, "El Sancarlista", played volleyball, and was part of a theater troupe. In my senior year I was president of the Cultural Committee of the student government (Student Council). I successfully organized multiple events including a theater festival in which several other schools from around the city participated. For twelve years I studied at CSC, and there I learned to love education and the school itself, so much that I returned years later as a teacher, and decided to pursue a career in education.

Always learning

I am a serial learner, and my learning is not restricted to the degree programs and universities I have attended. I am always studying about my various personal and professional interests through reading,  online courses, discussion with smart people, and practice.

I am currently most engaged in learning about the following topics:

  • Mindfulness and meditation

Mindful Schools Courses

In 2017, I registered with Mindful Schools, an organization based in California (USA), and I have completed two of their online courses on Mindfulness for educators. I enjoyed them both very much and would recommend them highly to other educators interested in the topic. These are the courses I have taken:

  • Mindful Educator Essentials, by Mindful Schools, 2017: I completed this online course in August 2017. I learned about the Mindful Schools curricula for Elementary and Middle/High School, and how to deliver it. Certificate here.
  • Mindfulness Fundamentals, by Mindful Schools, 2017: I completed this six week introductory course in July 2017, which provided interesting information in secular mindfulness, and science, and supported the development of my personal mindfulness practice.  Certificate here.

EdX Courses

I enjoy learning online, and often enroll in courses. These are the ones I have completed on EdX, a platform I particularly like:

Google Certified Teacher

In the course of my research into certification of computer skills for teachers I took the Google exams to certify my knowledge of their Education Apps suite in 2014. I did not renew them. I lost interest in this path.

At the time(April 2014 - April 2015), I got  certified in the following tools: Google Apps Education Individual Qualification, which includes Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Sites. Google Apps Admin.
