I thought about it first

Some time ago I wrote a blog about a piece of software I thought it would be cool de have. Now, thanks to friedapplepie I've found out someone is building something similar to what I thought. I'd still want a citation tool that worked with my work processor and way of including articles as well as books, but it cool so far. It is called The Library Thing and is a beta version now. Let's see where they take it.

Moon phases

Sometime ago, thanks to Rafael's "tuition recuperation plan" I got to watch "A Private Universe", the famous documentary that features the Harvard Commencement where graduates are asked about the reasons for the phases of the moon and for the seasons. I understood the seasons, but not the phases of the moon. I had the common misconception that they were due to the shadow of the earth covering part of the moon and blocking the sunlight from it. Idiot. I did some googling and found out the real reason...

Safari

I've been told that Safari does not render this blog too well. I'm not sure if it's just the blog or the whole website. In any case, I am sure the HTML and CSS in the website validate and the ones in the blog return warnings, but no errors. I've tested IE, Firefox and Netscape successfully. I don't have a mac to test and try and debug with, so I haven't found a solution for Safari. I recommend trying a different theme for the blog (available on the right).

Insoportable

Desde el viernes estoy en una situación insoportable. Tengo escalofríos todo el día, como si tuviera fiebre pero sin fiebre, y tengo náuseas insportables. Hoy no he hecho más que devolver lo que como. Insoportable. He estado inútil todos estos días.

Rural Ed., Work, Pumpkins.. and routine

Well, I took a job. A consultancy with the "Dirección de Poblaciones" at the Ministry of Education that will go from October to December and maybe a little longer. I will be studying the rural education system and writing recommendations on how to incorporate technology into rural curricula. It was part of the job I interviewed for early last week, the one about the three reports. The other two reports will be done by someone else, and my work will be part-time: they said they could not afford having me full time doing the three but really wanted me to do this technology report.

Zoo

Yup, I went to the zoo. Sunday was a rainy day while I walked along the paths and watched some animals shiver and others sleep or walk around. Then we had a picnic by the lake in Tominé and drove back to the city.
Pictures!

Medellín and El Tintal

Wednesday I went to Medellín, invited by Fundación Terpel to read and assess classroom projects from teachers in public schools applying for a tiny grant. I'd never been to Medellín and didn't really get to know the city. From the airport to the hotel, to the airport and lots of work. I did go out to Parque Lleras Wednesday night and drove a little around on Thursday. It rained and I didn't see any pretty girls, an urban myth of that city from my point of view.

Ministry meeting

I just came back from meeting/interviewing with the two women from the Ministry of Education, Cristina and Julia. They are working on a rural education project. Fase 2 will be launched in 2007 and they need someone to help them "think" about technology integration in the project's educational models: Escuela Nueva, Aceleración del Aprendizaje, SAT, and Telesecundaria (if I got them right). Each one is different from the others in many ways, but they are all "proven" models already in place, that have their own curricula. I know about the first three.

Post, post, post!

I have been lazy. Too lazy to keep a blog active and that's sad 'cause I haven't been doing a lot lately. I wish I could blame it on my study not having reliable wireless signal, but the rest of the house does, so it's not an excuse, not a good one. I *have* talked to some people, and my resume is, as we do round here, circulating. I went to a lecture by Ernesto Shieffelbein (?) last week at "Los Andes". I never went to a lecture of his at Harvard, but I did read some of his stuff and saw an interview with him from the IEP people.
